The Weekend Recap: Surprise results in MLS Next and Young Stars shine in MLS Next Pro
We highlight the top performers from a weekend full of thrilling action in MLS NEXT and NEXT Pro play.
This weekend marked notable moments for several young prospects in American youth soccer as well as some surprising results in MLS Next play.
Da'vian Kimborugh, the youngest player in the history of American soccer to debut as a professional, has been the subject of discussion this weekend. The young player from Sacramento Republic made his second appearance on Saturday night, entering the 90th minute to replace Jared Timmer in the match between Sacramento and Loudoun United. Kimbrough had been on the bench throughout this season, and at the young age of 14 made his first appearance of 2024, in turn becoming the first player born in 2010 to play at least two professional games.
The young Mexican-American prospect recently participated in the East Mallorca Cup in Spain with the Mexican U-16 youth national team and previously attended the United States U-14 identification camp in Atlanta, Georgia, demonstrating that both federations see a lot of potential in this young player.
