The Japan Football Association (JFA) will host the 7th International Dream Cup from May 26th to June 5th in Fukushima, Japan, with the United States, Netherlands, and Nigeria participating in the tournament. Japan has emerged victorious in the tournament four times throughout their history, with their most recent triumph coming against Mexico in 2022. The United States last participated in the tournament in 2017, finishing in 4th place with notable players such as Gio Reyna, Taylor Booth, and Bryan Reynolds.
Team Power Rankings
MLS Next Flex was an event filled with a wide range of emotions, ranging from unexpected upsets to displays of dominance. We have compiled updated power rankings encompassing the U-15 to U-17 age groups, which also include the noteworthy presence of non-MLS academies.
U-15 Power Rankings
Real Salt Lake successfully clinched the top spot in their group, securing three victories while maintaining an impressive goal difference of 10 scored and 0 conceded. Similarly, LA Galaxy also emerged victorious in all three of their group matches, notably defeating the GA Cup champions, Austin FC. NYCFC showcased an impressive performance, particularly with striker Zidane Yanez, who netted an impressive tally of 5 goals in 3 matches, thereby securing their ticket to the playoffs. Notably, FC Delco, a non-MLS academy, earned a position in the Top 5 power rankings due to their remarkable triumphs against esteemed opponents like Met Oval and Columbus Crew.
U-16 Power Rankings
Strikers FC showcased an outstanding performance at the Flex tournament, boasting a flawless record of 3-0, scoring an impressive 13 goals while not conceding any. LAFC and PDA also demonstrated remarkable defensive prowess, conceding only one goal throughout the tournament and securing the top spot in their respective groups. Toronto, having displayed dominance throughout the season with just four losses since August, carried their exceptional form to the Flex tournament, clinching three victories. Alexandria SA surprised many with their commanding performances against esteemed academies, advancing from the group stage while conceding only twice.
U-17 Power Rankings
The U-17 age group provided some of the most captivating moments. Sacramento Republic made a strong statement with a resounding victory against GA Cup champions Philadelphia Union on the main stage, securing three impressive triumphs to advance from the group stage. Met Oval Academy also caused an upset by defeating the California powerhouse, LAFC, with a 1-0 win, securing their spot in the playoffs, while LAFC also managed to qualify. Sockers Chicago surprised many by finishing at the top of Group A, achieving significant victories against Orlando City and CF Montreal. Austin FC comfortably secured their place in the playoffs with convincing wins. Notably, GA Cup MVP Viggo Ortiz stood out among Austin FC with 2 goals and an assist.
