U15 USYNT's Croation Journey & Anticipation builds for MLS Next Cup
The United States U15 YNT defeats Morocco and advances to the next round in Croatia while MLS Next academies vie for a spot at MLS Next Cup next month
The U15 youth national team began their Vlatko Marković Tournament campaign on Wednesday when they faced Croatia. The game started favorably for the United States, creating many dangerous opportunities that culminated with center forward Zidane Cadet scoring in the 17th minute. The United States team continued to generate danger, especially from the wings, with very good individual performances by Darris Hyte and Mattheo Dimareli. It's Official: Stefan Chirila Signs Homegrown Contract with FC Cincinnati
FC Cincinnati has signed academy forward Stefan Chirila to a homegrown contract through 2025. Stefan Chirila's deal will keep him with the second team for the remainder of this season, and he will be promoted to the first team next year.
Stefan Chirila, 17, won the Golden Boot at the Generation adidas Cup this fall, the United States' premier youth tournament, and scored a total of 45 goals this season with the FC Cincinnati U17 team. Stefan Chirila's impact was immediate in the professional game as he scored for Cincinnati's second team last week and was named MLS Next Pro Rising Star of the Week with a total of 7 games played and 2 goals.
Stefan Chirila joined Cincinnati's academy last fall from the Philadelphia Union, where he had played primarily as an attacking midfielder. After his arrival at FC Cincinnati, the coaches saw a lot of potential in him as a center forward and the results in that position were immediate. Chirila is characterized by being a clinical finisher with great ball striking and has very good mobility across the attack front. Cincinnati is expected to compensate Philadelphia for his rights, sources say.
MLS Next Flex: The Event Ends With Great Surprises Ahead The MLS Next Cup
The MLS Next Flex event 2024 ended last Tuesday with surprising results and a total of 64 teams divided into U15, U16, U17, and U19 age groups already qualified for the MLS Next Cup next June in Tennessee.
Weston FC gave the big surprise in group H after finishing in first place after beating Santa Barbara in the first match. In the second game, they managed to draw 1-1 against Philadelphia Union U17, with a subsequent defeat due to penalties. On Tuesday, they faced the San Jose Earthquakes, and the Florida team achieved a 2-1 victory over the Quakes. Mateo Garcia opened the scoring for Weston FC in the 39th minute, and in the second half, left back Connor Owen equalized the score 1-1. Brock Lucena, in the 72nd minute, secured the final 2-1 in favor of Weston FC, thus achieving the victory that qualified them for the MLS Next Cup.
Real Salt Lake beat New York Red Bulls U15 with a resounding 5-0 in what was the last game of group H. The New York Red Bulls came into the game with two victories while Real Salt Lake had achieved two draws, in which they defeated Phoenix Rising on both occasions by penalty shootout and Athletum FC. Real Salt Lake took an early lead in the game as in the 18th minute Hunter Peralta captured a rebound from a shot that hit the post and finished the play with an empty goal. In the 21st minute, center forward Van Parker made it 2-0 after dribbling past the goalkeeper and finishing with his left foot. At minute 27, Van Parker scored again after a penalty, and at the end of the first half, Reignen Magsino with a long shot made it 4-0 over New York Red Bulls. The fifth goal came with Jonah Giorgis scoring with his left foot from the edge of the box, culminating in the final result of Real Salt Lake 5-0 over the New York Red Bulls.
