The U.S. Pipeline Flowing Strong into the International Stage

With a new generation ready to make their mark on the National Team and put the country back on notice with the growing talent the U.S. has to offer we get the chance to take a look at this new roster the U.S. has constructed for these international friendlies coming up. While some are taking care of business at the international stage for the U.S. others are taking care of it for different national teams, as the U-15 South American Championships are in full effect, we take a look at some of the players who we believe will set the tournament ablaze.

The U.S. Under-19 Men’s Youth National Team will face Sweden on Oct. 11 and Japan on Oct. 15 during a training camp taking place from Oct. 7-15 in Valencia, Spain.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2006, are age-eligible for this one-year U-19 MYNT cycle and head coach Michael Nsien, who recently coached the U.S. U-18 national team, has called up nine players born in 2006, 10 born in 2007 and one in 2008- Charlotte FC forward Nimfasha Berchimas.

The U-19 team is meeting with expectations of expanding the player pool ahead of the upcoming U-20 World Cup in Chile. Michael Nsien has opted to call up several emerging players from this crop of talent both domestically and internationally.

Among some new names is center forward Jykese Fields of Hoffenheim U-19. The 2007-born forward participated as a guest of FC Cincinnati U-17 in the last Generation Adidas Cup and made quite an impression. He currently has nine goals in seven games in the U-19 Bundesliga.

Former NYCFC academy forward Dino Klapija returns to the United States after playing for Croatia's youth teams. Klapija is off to a strong start with RB Leipzig, scoring four goals in nine games. He is showing great talent and development for such a young forward and proving it at one of the biggest development academies in Europe.

Joining the forwards is Mykhi Joyner. The MLS NEXT Pro sensation has scored fifteen goals and provided three assists in twenty-four games, being one of the tournament's leading scorers.

The national team will face two very strong opponents that will test the players in search of a spot on the U-20 youth national team. These games will be a good way to set a benchmark in the development of these players and see where they stand alongside some of the best national teams in the world.

Top 10 Players to Watch at the U-15 South American Championship

CONMEBOL's U-15 youth championship begins today, and some of the highest rated youth prospects are participating in the event, so here’s a list of some of our favorites that are showcasing their talents.

Justin Lerma (Ecuador): Lerma is one of the sensational players in Ecuador and one of the best projects after Kendry Paez. His talent caught the attention of Borussia Dortmund who signed him and he is expected to join them once he turns 18. He recently scored a goal in Ecuador's 1-0 friendly win over Argentina.

Ruan Pablo (Brazil): The young Brazilian forward has already made his debut in the Brasileirao and is projected as one of the next big talents on Brazilian soil. There are rumors that Manchester City will be keeping an eye on him in the tournament.

Uriel Ojeda (Argentina): The talented attacking midfielder from San Lorenzo is the top scorer in the U-17 age group of the Argentine tournament. Ojeda is a player who can play all over the attacking front and has very high potential.

Yerwin Sulbaran (Venezuela): Sulbaran is an attacking midfielder capable of creating danger at every opportunity. Not only is he skillful on the ball but he also shows himself to be a clinical finisher. His development is crucial as he seems to possess a lot of qualities that a naturally gifted player should have and he is running with it at the moment.

Santiago Londoño (Colombia): Colombia is characterized by its great center forwards and Londoño is shaping up to be one of the next strikers for the national team. A classic number nine with a keen eye for goal, He is developing into a striker who is clinical with his opportunities in front of goal and does not waste them.

Lautaro Navarro (Uruguay): Navarro is a pure '9' and a goal-scoring machine. He managed to score more than 100 goals at youth level with his team Defensor Sporting and in eleven games with the Uruguay U-15 youth national team he scored 5 goals. His ability in front of goal and his finishing prowess make him a very interesting prospect in youth football.

Wesley Nata (Brazil): Nata is a skillful, direct forward who has impressed at Fluminense's academy. Coming from such a prestigious academy in world football it’s easy to see that he has all the tools to be a truly special player.

Nicolas Marcipar (Argentina): Marcipar is a La Masia-trained central defender who can represent both Argentina and Spain. He is characterized by being a defender with great instincts and strong leadership on and off the field. And being part of such a world-class academy surely sets the expectations high for such a youngster, nonetheless, he has an important decision ahead for himself on what country to represent.

Zidane Yañez (Chile): Yañez is a sensational striker in Chile and is not only a natural goalscorer and a threat in the box but he also shows very good tactical concepts and great movement off the ball. The US-born forward has already represented Chile, Puerto Rico, and the United States at youth level.

Nicolas Cairo (Peru): The recruitment of dual nationals is strong in Peru and for this tournament, they called up Nicolas Cairo who plays for Sassuolo U-17 in Italy. The midfielder has three nationalities (Argentina, Italy, and Peru) and is characterized by his great technical qualities.

Wesley Okoduwa: “The Decision”

The right-back born in 2008 is one of England's top prospects and has three nationalities, England where he has lived all his life, Nigeria for his parents, and the United States for his birthplace. The Bronx native recently mentioned in an interview that last September he received a call from the United States U-17 to participate in the Jezec Cup in the Czech Republic. At that time England U-17 also participated in a youth tournament in Germany and the defender opted for England since he is a key piece of the team but did not rule out representing the United States in the future.

“I had to choose one of the two. With England there are the Euros and the qualifiers, I am interested in all of that. But I am open to coming to the USA and representing them. It depends on what I choose.”

“I was born in the Bronx, and I stayed there for a couple of years and then we moved... I haven't been back yet, but it's something that I really want to do."

- Wesley Okoduwa

Will he follow in the footsteps of Yunus Musah and Folarin Balogun who represented England at the youth level and opted for the Stars and Stripes at the senior level? He is certainly a prospect to keep an eye on in the coming years.
