Chicago Fire FC Makes History with Robert Turdean Signing

Chicago Fire FC is making waves with its bold commitment to nurturing young talent. The club announced the signing of Robert Turdean, a 15-year-old Chicago native, to a historic Homegrown Player contract. The deal is the second-largest in MLS history for a Homegrown Player, emphasizing the Fire’s dedication to developing local stars.

Turdean’s journey to this monumental achievement began at age 11 when he joined the Chicago Fire Academy. Over the years, he has demonstrated exceptional skill, helping the Fire clinch the MLS NEXT U-15 Cup Championship in 2024 with his two-goal contribution in the final against LA Galaxy Academy. This season, his stellar form continues with 11 goals and three assists across U-16 and U-18 levels.

Gregg Berhalter, Sporting Director and Head Coach, sees Turdean’s decision to stay with the Fire over European offers as a testament to the club’s supportive environment:

“His growth within our Academy has been remarkable, and we believe he has an incredibly high ceiling. His decision to choose the Fire over major European clubs speaks volumes about the environment we are building.”

Gregg Berhalter - Sporting Director and Head Coach

Turdean, honored and inspired, shared his gratitude:

“Signing my first professional contract with the Fire is a dream come true. I’m excited to keep growing with the Fire and will work hard every day to make the Club and the city of Chicago proud.”

His international experience with the U.S. U-15 National Team in tournaments like the UEFA Development Tournament and training camps underlines his potential to shine on the global stage.
