The Best of Cup did not disappoint, delivering major results across the age groups, with numerous upsets and standout individual performances that made the event incredible for everyone attending from across the United States' top youth leagues.

Solar SC’s Comeback Triumph Over Philadelphia Union U-17
In a gripping battle at WSFS Bank Sportsplex, Solar SC ECNL overcame an early deficit to secure a 3-1 win over Philadelphia Union U-17. After Union’s Jason Hunt scored in the 19th minute, Solar’s John Skiermont took over, netting a brace and setting the stage for Larkin Ma-Hain to seal the game. A masterclass in resilience!

Goal Fest: NEFC U-19 Defeats Northern Virginia United 6-3
NEFC U-19 put on an attacking clinic, with standout performances from Lalo Barbeira, Brenden Listzwan, and Luca Shislop. Despite a valiant effort from Alex Garrison and Northern Virginia United, NEFC’s offensive depth proved too much in this high-scoring thriller.

Philadelphia Union U-19 Outlasts Penn Fusion U-19 in a 4-2 Battle
The Union surged ahead with goals from Amadou Hann, Paul Killen, and Jack Wayne, but Penn Fusion fought back with strikes from Scottie O’Donnell and Charlie Undorf. Ultimately, Gunner Graham’s 79th-minute goal ensured victory for the Union in a match full of drama and determination.

Pipeline SC’s Hat-Trick Hero Shines Against Sporting AC U-17
Landon Beckman stole the show, scoring all three goals in Pipeline SC’s 3-1 win. Despite a strong effort from Sporting AC’s Anthony Huerto, Beckman’s clinical finishing sealed an impressive victory.

The 2025 preseason is in full swing, and it’s giving us a first glimpse at the future stars of MLS and beyond. Young academy prospects are stepping up, showcasing their talents, and proving they belong among seasoned professionals. Here’s a closer look at some standout performances:

NYCFC’s Youth Shine in Closed-Door Friendly
New York City FC kicked off their preseason with a private match against Real Salt Lake, featuring several promising academy players. Maximo Carrizo, already turning heads as one of NYCFC’s brightest talents, continued his development alongside Jonathan Shore and Zidane Yañez. Academy forward Seymour Reid, invited to join the first team for preseason, made a strong impression with his composure and creativity.

Orlando City’s Gustavo Caraballo Makes Pro Debut
Orlando City SC faced Brazilian powerhouse Atletico Mineiro, giving 16-year-old Gustavo Caraballo his first minutes in a professional setting. The Venezuelan-born forward, who has represented the U.S. U-15 national team, showed glimpses of his attacking potential, combining well with senior players and adapting quickly to the higher level of competition.

Andrei Chirila Impresses for FC Cincinnati
At just 16 years old, Andrei Chirila made his mark in FC Cincinnati’s preseason match against CF Montreal. The young center-back scored the game’s only goal with a perfectly timed header, earning praise from head coach Pat Noonan. “His composure and ability to step up in big moments remind me of seasoned veterans,” Noonan noted, signaling Chirila’s bright future in the sport.

Chicago Fire Academy Talent on Display
The Chicago Fire’s preseason squad featured several academy standouts, including central defender Christopher Cupps and forward Vitaliy Hlyut. Hlyut made an immediate impact, providing an assist in a 2-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City. With the recent signing of 15-year-old prospect Robert Turdean, the Fire are building a pipeline of young talent poised to make waves in MLS.

Matthew Corcoran Debuts for Nashville SC
The 18-year-old midfielder joined Nashville SC’s first team for preseason and started in their match against Charlotte FC. Corcoran, a Birmingham Legion product, demonstrated maturity beyond his years, controlling the midfield and linking up play with precision.

Cavan Sullivan Starts for Philadelphia Union
In a friendly against Danish side AGF Aarhus, Cavan Sullivan made his first preseason start. The young midfielder showed why he’s considered one of the top prospects in the Union’s academy, dictating play with vision and composure.

Jude Terry Features for LAFC
16-year-old midfielder Jude Terry got valuable minutes with the LAFC first team in a 1-1 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes. Despite his age, Terry showed confidence on the ball and contributed to LAFC’s dynamic midfield play.
